TUAKHAUS is a sustainable restaurant-bar where the cultural richness of Sarawak meets the vibrant nightlife of Kuala Lumpur. It celebrates tuak, Sarawak’s traditional rice wine, not just as a drink, but as a symbol of heritage, storytelling, and gathering. The design blends East and West Malaysia through food, music and spatial experience. The mezzanine floor draws inspiration from Sarawak’s communal campfire traditions — an open social circle where guests connect under soft lighting and live music. Below, the ground floor gives the experience in earthy textures, offering a warm, intimate dining atmosphere. The heart of TUAKHAUS is sustainability. Rice in Malaysia is more than food — it’s identity, ritual, and memory. TUAKHAUS honours the full cycle of the grain. The often-overlooked rice husk, once discarded or burned, is reborn in walls, textures, and finishes, giving waste new purpose and meaning. Rice stalks, recycled timber, and adaptive reuse of structure further reduce environmental impact while embedding local context. The space uses natural ventilation, smart lighting, and blends with its forest surroundings to minimise energy consumption and maximise comfort. This isn’t just a restaurant-bar — it’s a living narrative of circular design, where materials tell stories and spaces invite connection. TUAKHAUS is a celebration of culture and consciousness. It is Malaysian design with meaning — where the grain that feeds us also shelters us, where nothing is wasted, and where architecture becomes a stage for heritage to thrive.
